You must think long term and the exact audience your planning to target. For an example, if your web site is about businesses in United kingdom then its a good idea to go for a .co.uk domain extension. But if your target audience is global then settling for .co.uk could be a big mistake in all aspects of your web site and its online success. Its always a good idea to go for an available .com or .net name rather than settling for a country specific domain extension. But like i said there’s nothing wrong in goin for a country specific extensions as long as its your audience.
